Frequently asked questions

How much do premiums rise in 2027?

According to the FOPH, the average premium rises by 5.0% in 2027 to CHF 412 a month; for adults by 4.9% to CHF 487.60, for young adults by 4.8% to CHF 338.80 and for children by 4.6% to CHF 128.10.

Until when can I switch health insurer?

You can switch your basic insurance every year until 30 November for the following year. Basic insurance benefits are the same at every insurer.

What is the lowest possible premium?

The cheapest FOPH-approved premium in your premium region across all insurers, models and deductibles, usually with the highest deductible (CHF 2’500 for adults) and a model with restricted choice of doctor. A higher deductible lowers the premium but raises your own costs when you need care.

Why does my commune count, not my postcode?

Your premium depends on the premium region of the commune you live in (BFS number). A postcode can cover several communes, so the calculator first determines the commune.
