Saving = Swiss average (BFS, August 2026) minus today’s price across the border; negative means cheaper in Switzerland. Switzerland publishes no prices per station, so your local station may be cheaper or dearer. The detour, your time and the customs rules on fuel in cans are not included; the calculator using your location is further down.
Across the border, today
Officially reported station prices as of 2026-10-03: France = mean per département (Ministry of Economy), Italy = median self-service price per province (MIMIT), Austria = median of reporting stations per Land (E-Control), Germany = median of open stations within 10 km of five border towns (MTS-K via Tankerkönig). In francs at the ECB reference rate 0.9279. Context, not a recommendation, customs rules apply to fuel imported in cans.

Border communes, lowest reported prices today
Communes in the border départements and provinces with at least 3 stations reporting that fuel (France = mean, Italy = median self-service), in francs. There are no official station prices for Swiss cantons or communes, which is why only communes across the border appear here. No individual stations, no recommendation.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth filling up abroad today?
Seen from Switzerland, filling up abroad pays off today in only 6 of 19 border regions. The biggest saving is near Grisons: in Tirol (Austria) a litre of unleaded 95 costs CHF 0.28 less than the Swiss average, about CHF 14.10 per 50-litre tank, before the drive and your time.
How much does petrol cost in Switzerland right now?
According to the BFS, in August 2026 CHF 1.95 per litre of unleaded 95 and CHF 2.18 per litre of diesel on average. The figure is published monthly with the consumer price index.
Are there official daily prices for Swiss petrol stations?
No. Unlike France, Italy, Austria or Germany, Switzerland has no legal duty to report station prices. The only official Swiss figure is the BFS monthly average; private apps rely on user reports.
Is refuelling abroad cheaper?
The table shows the prices reported today in the border regions, in francs. Whether a trip pays off depends on distance, consumption and customs rules, we do not judge that.
Why is diesel more expensive than petrol?
Since 2022 diesel has mostly been above unleaded 95 in the BFS average (2025 average: diesel 1.80, unleaded 95 1.70). The causes (world market, mineral-oil tax, demand) are not part of this statistic.
