Swiss Living Index for AI assistants

The Swiss Living Index offers its official data on all 26 cantons and every commune as an MCP server: 53 tools an AI assistant can query directly, for example on taxes, rents, health insurance, permits and holidays. Free, no sign-up, every figure with its source and year.

How to connect the server

Server address

https://swisslivingindex.ch/mcp

Claude (claude.ai and desktop app)

Settings › Connectors › «Add custom connector», name «Swiss Living Index» and the address above.

ChatGPT

In the settings under Apps and connectors, create a connector with the address above (depending on the plan, in developer mode).

Claude Code

In the terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http swiss-living-index https://swisslivingindex.ch/mcp

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers (Streamable HTTP) needs only the address above, for example:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "swiss-living-index": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://swisslivingindex.ch/mcp"
    }
  }
}

What is an MCP server?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use external data sources. With the Swiss Living Index connected, the assistant answers with the current official figures instead of from memory, and names the source.

Example questions for your assistant

  • «What is the income tax in Elsau on a gross salary of CHF 100,000?»
  • «Which health insurer is cheapest in my commune in 2027?»
  • «Which permit do I need with a job in Zurich?»
  • «When are the autumn holidays in the canton of Bern?»
  • «How high is the forest fire danger in Valais?»
